Humza Yousaf, steps down.

As the head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and the country's first minister, Humza Yousaf has resigned.

The action was taken shortly after Yousaf broke up the SNP's coalition with the Scottish Greens, which led to the opposition parties putting up two no-confidence motions that Yousaf was predicted to lose.

During a live broadcast, Yousaf said, "I am not willing to trade my values and principles or do deals with whomever simply for retaining power."

The pro-independence SNP's prospects have soured due to Nicola Sturgeon's departure as party leader last year and a financing controversy. In an attempt to win back voters, there has been internal debate on how progressive the party should present its proposals.
